Sweeping from rocky coastline to glaciercrowned peaks, Kenai Fjords National Park encompasses 607,805 acres of unspoiled wilderness on the southeast coast of Alaska?s Kenai Peninsula. The park is capped by the Harding Icefield, a relic from past iceages and the largest icefield entirely within U.S. borders. Visitors witness a landscape continuously shaped by glaciers, earthquakes, and storms. Orcas, otters, puffins, bear, moose and mountain goats are just a few of the numerous animals that make their home in this everchanging place where mountains, ice and ocean meet. The Park offers a range of opportunities for visitors, students and scientists to explore, study and enjoy this special piece of our nation's natural and cultural heritage.

Lake Aleknagik is located in the southwestern part of Alaska approximately 24 miles north of Dillingham. It is the southern most in a string of lakes that form the Wood River Lakes system. With road access to Dillingham, the village of Aleknagik on the lake's southern shore is considered the gateway to the Wood-Tikchik State Park. This is the largest state park in the United States and one of Alaska's premier sport fishing areas.

The largest state park in the nation, at 1.6 million acres, Wood-Tikchik State Park was created in 1978 for the purpose of protecting the area's fish and wildlife breeding and support systems and preserving continued subsistence and recreational activities. The management philosophy is one of non-development and maintenance of the area's wilderness character.
